Sahiwal Cattle
The Sahiwal is a breed of zebuine cattle indigenous to the Indian Subcontinent. It is named after Sahiwal District of the Punjab province of present-day Pakistan, and is distributed mainly in that province of Pakistan and in the Indian states of Punjab, Haryana, and Rajasthan.
The Sahiwal is of small to medium size in Pakistan, average body weights are 544 kg for bulls and 408 kg for cows, while heights at the withers are 170 cm and 130 cm respectively; in India cows are reported to be considerably smaller, with an average weight of 327 kg and withers height of 124 cm. The coat is a reddish dun, sometimes with white markings. In bulls, the hump is large and may lean to the side; the crown of the head is domed, particularly in bulls; and the horns are small. It is a heat-tolerant cattle breed.

Physical Characteristics:
Sahiwal cattle typically exhibit a reddish dun coat, although lighter shades of pale red are also observed. A darker brown coloration is commonly found around the hump and neck areas. In males, the color tends to deepen towards the extremities, including the head, legs, and tail. Males possess a prominent hump and stand approximately 136 cm tall at the withers, while females average around 120 cm. Compared to other Bos indicus breeds, Sahiwal cows have notably large udders with uneven and sizable teats. They also feature a well-developed thoracic hump and long, drooping ears.
Distinct Traits:
The Sahiwal breed stands out among Bos indicus cattle due to its superior milk production. Additionally, Sahiwal cows typically give birth to small calves with ease, experiencing minimal birthing difficulties. As draft animals, Sahiwal oxen are known for their calm and sluggish temperament, making them well-suited for tasks requiring slow and steady work. According to Mosi (1995), as reported in DAD-IS (2005), Sahiwal cattle also exhibit resistance to tick-borne diseases. These notable qualities have led to their introduction in many tropical countries
